Dr. Elizabeth Wong, PhD, C.Psych.
Psychologist

Dr. Elizabeth Wong is a clinical psychologist with training in evidence-based therapies that include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). She takes an integrative approach that allows her to tailor treatment to each client’s individual needs within a non-judgemental, compassionate and warm space.

Dr. Wong is passionate about supporting clients in gaining new perspectives and insights, processing and regulating distressing emotions, and adding new skills and strategies to their coping toolbox. Her aim is to help clients build confidence to adapt and thrive during challenges, alleviate suffering, and pursue fulfilling challenges.

Dr. Wong offers individual therapy to adults who are experiencing a range of concerns including depression and anxiety (social anxiety, generalized worry, health anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia, specific phobias), trauma (PTSD and childhood trauma), family of origin concerns, difficulties with emotion regulation, Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (OCD, skin picking/lip biting, hair pulling), ADHD, body image concerns and eating disordered behaviour, perfectionism, self-esteem concerns and self-criticism, and grief.

Her approach to ADHD goes beyond tackling disorganization or time management. She works in a compassionate and collaborative way to explore how ADHD shows up in your life, using CBT to develop practical strategies for improving focus and managing impulsivity. At the same time, she recognizes the emotional weight ADHD can carry—whether it’s feeling frustrated, doubting yourself, or dealing with stress. Together, she helps clients navigate common challenges like perfectionism and procrastination, while also building skills for emotional regulation. Dr. Wong is passionate about helping all clients find their strengths, foster self-compassion, and feel more confident in their personal and professional lives, all within a warm and supportive space.

Dr. Wong completed her MA in experimental psychology at TMU in 2013 and MA in clinical and counselling psychology in 2017. She completed her PhD in Counselling and Clinical Psychology at the University of Toronto. She has over 10 years of training in individual therapy and assessment in hospitals, universities, and private practice settings. She completed several practicum placements at university counselling centres including the OISE/UT Psychology Clinic and TMU Centre for Student Development and Counselling in which she received extensive training in EFT and CBT for a wide range of difficulties including depressed mood, managing life transitions, anxiety, relationship challenges, and identity issues. She also completed a practicum placement at Toronto Western Hospital providing CBT and EFT treatment to individuals struggling with body image and eating-related concerns, e.g., emotional eating, binge eating.

She completed her residency at two private practice settings integrating emotion-focused and cognitive behavioural-based therapies and received extensive training in the treatment of OCD including the integration of CBT (Exposure and Response Prevention) and ACT with individuals with a variety of OCD symptoms, including obsessions and compulsions related to contamination, harm, sexuality, health, relationships, perfectionism and just rightness. She also worked with individuals with Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs), such as excoriation disorder (skin picking), trichotillomania (hair pulling) and nail-biting.

Dr. Wong’s research interests have focused on the impact of labels, stereotypes and stigma on people’s well-being and performance. Her doctoral research focused on the stigma related to mental health treatment seeking as a barrier to the treatment process and outcome. Her past research focused on the impact of stereotypes on career decision-making.

She is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association.
