Dr. Ashley Mlotek completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Windsor. She works with adult clients with a variety of clinical issues such as Anxiety Disorders (e.g., social anxiety, panic, generalized anxiety), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders (e.g., OCD, Skin Picking, Hair Pulling), Depressive Disorders, and trauma-related difficulties.

Dr. Mlotek also has experience working with other types of concerns such as emotional regulation difficulties, self-criticism, perfectionism, interpersonal relationships, family-of-origin issues, adjustment-related stress, and loss/grief.

Her therapy approaches include Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She also provides Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) informed treatment, which includes skills such as mindfulness.

Dr. Mlotek has extensive training in EFT. She deeply believes in each person’s innate ability to heal. She is committed to strengthening this process by clarifying and making meaning of important feelings that arise in the context of a safe therapeutic relationship. Ultimately, the goal of EFT is to transform unresolved and painful emotions and shift self-critical thoughts. Change and growth through treatment can lead to greater self-compassion and promote healthy behaviours that are consistent with your core needs and values.

Dr. Mlotek’s therapeutic approach is firmly grounded in empathy and compassion. She prioritizes the use of collaboration to ensure that each individual plays an active role throughout their own therapeutic process. Dr. Mlotek’s philosophy is that every individual has the capacity to live the type of life that they want to lead. She views her role as helping individuals discover their own valued direction and learn new ways to grow. Dr. Mlotek recognizes that every person has their own beliefs, views, morals, and cultural perspective and works with each individual within this framework. She feels privileged to be a part of each individual’s process of gaining awareness of their inner experiences and finding new ways to live a fulfilling life.

Dr. Mlotek tailors her therapy to each person to meet specific goals, incorporating a range of evidenced-based models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy interventions (DBT). One of Dr. Mlotek’s special clinical interest is treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). She previously co-developed a psychotherapy group at the University of Windsor’s Psychological Services and Research Centre for OCD using an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approach.

Dr. Mlotek’s clinical training took place in a variety of hospital, community, university and private practice settings, such as the William Osler Health System and the Student Counselling Centre at the University of Windsor. She completed her pre-doctoral residency at The Ottawa Hospital where she provided treatment, assessment and consultation services in various acute care inpatient units, as well as the first episode psychosis clinic. Additionally, Dr. Mlotek developed and co-facilitated a group treatment program for the inpatient mental health unit. During her residency, she also conducted presurgical assessments for bariatric surgery and provided group therapy sessions post-surgery. Dr. Mlotek has also facilitated groups for depression and stress management.

Dr. Mlotek’s graduate research was focused on the effects of childhood trauma on functioning in adulthood as well as Emotion Focused Therapy for Trauma (EFTT), on which she has also co-authored a published review article.

Dr. Mlotek is a member of the Canadian Psychological Association.
