Dr. Palangi focuses on establishing a warm, safe, and trusting collaborative relationship with clients. She works from a biopsychosocial perspective that examines the interconnection of biological, psychological development, and social factors and how these aspects play a role in clients’ current mental health. She approaches therapy with a sense of curiosity by exploring clients’ experiences from a nonjudgmental lens, acknowledging that every person is unique. Dr. Palangi often uses CBT and EFT while simultaneously incorporating mindfulness techniques to help clients gain awareness and become more present and accepting of their emotions and internal experiences. She values working in an empathic and collaborative way with clients to create the kind of shift in thought process and emotions which will be growth promoting and beneficial to them. Dr. Palangi also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma and has a special interest in treating first responders and those who have experienced recent traumas.

Dr. Palangi completed her pre-doctoral residency at Peterborough Regional Health Centre where she conducted comprehensive cognitive and personality assessments and provided therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and their families in both inpatient and outpatient programs. In addition, she co-facilitated a number of group treatment programs including a mindfulness group for adults with complex mental health disorders as well as groups for depression and anxiety management, with both adults and adolescents. Prior to her residency, Dr. Palangi had formally trained at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Lakeridge Health Centre, and university counselling centres, as well as having worked in private practice. In these settings, she offered individual and group therapy to people experiencing Depressive and Anxiety Disorders, Personality Disorders, bereavement, trauma-related disorders, psychosis, somatic complaints, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. She also provided psychoeducational, behavioural, diagnostic, and personality assessments to help identify appropriate treatment recommendations.
