Tanya Danyliuk, Toronto Psychology Centre

Dr. Tanya Danyliuk, PhD, C.Psych., Psychologist

Dr. Tanya Danyliuk is a registered clinical and school psychologist. She completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Toronto. Over the course of her graduate program, she has received diverse clinical training providing evidence-based assessment and intervention across a range of settings (CAMH, Princess Margaret Hospital, TDSB) with children, adolescents, and adults.

At Toronto Psychology Centre, Dr. Danyliuk offers therapy for children, adolescents and adults as well as consultation and coaching for parents. She also provides comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for Learning Disabilities (LD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and giftedness for children, adolescents and young adults as well as in-depth psychodiagnostics/mental health assessments for children and teens with complex mental health and learning needs.

Dr. Danyliuk’s primary therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Mindfulness-based therapies.

Her work with a variety of vulnerable populations has underscored the importance of a non-judgmental environment, one where she demonstrates warmth, genuine regard, and competence. By doing so, she provides a space where individuals feel they can safely express their emotions, experiences, and memories. She believes in using a compassionate, values-centered, and client-centered approach to address the various and unique needs of each person.

Dr. Danyliuk’s area of practice includes treatment for Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Adjustment Disorders, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. She also addresses common concerns such as relationship issues, family-of-origin issues, transitions, loss/grief, self-esteem/self-criticism, perfectionism, assertiveness, parenting challenges, insomnia and other health issues such as cancer. In her work with adolescents, additional areas of focus may include school and learning problems, behavioural problems, school and social/peer difficulties, and challenges in home life.

Dr. Danyliuk has a special interest in the area of health psychology which was fostered through her experience providing therapy for primarily mood, anxiety and adjustment disorders to childhood cancer survivors and cancer patients at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). She also held a role as a sexual health coach at PMH, where she worked with individuals to address sexual functioning and relationship concerns following cancer treatment.

Tanya completed her residency at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). At CAMH, Tanya worked in the Better Behaviours Service where she co-facilitated empirically validated intervention programs for children and youth who are demonstrating disruptive behaviour. These groups targeted a range of issues (e.g., impulsivity, dysregulation) including one focused on building social skills for children 6-13 years old with conduct problems, ADHD, and internalizing problems (e.g., depressive and anxiety symptoms). Additionally, she completed comprehensive court-ordered assessments with young offenders. These individuals often experienced challenges across a range of mental health disorders as well as having cognitive deficits.

Dr. Danyliuk’s extensive experience with assessment was also developed through her years of training at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) where she completed a residency rotation, prior practicum and is currently employed as a consulting school psychologist. While at the TDSB she has completed psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessments for various learning-related as well as internalizing and externalizing challenges in addition to providing consultation around these issues. Her work at the TDSB has made her increasingly aware of the need for comprehensive yet accessible assessment reports, which provide practical, appropriate, and evidence-based recommendations.

Academically, Dr. Danyliuk has focused on moral and value development in adolescents and young adults. She is specifically interested in examining the associations between parenting behaviours and value development.

Lastly, Dr. Danyliuk is also passionate about teaching. She and her colleagues have developed an empirically-based parenting program to educate parents on ways to socialize their children depending on their parenting goals. Furthermore, she has taught a continuing education course in sexual health counseling to health care providers.

Tanya is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and Canadian Psychological Association.
