Elizabeth McMillan has a Master of Social Work degree from Western University and is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She provides therapy to older adolescents, adults and seniors. Elizabeth’s therapeutic practice is informed by cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and emotion focused therapy (EFT).

Elizabeth is passionate about applying evidence-based interventions that fit the person and their specific treatment needs, which include: depression, anxiety (e.g., excessive worry, social anxiety, panic attacks), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), health concerns, relationship and work stress, family of origin concerns, self-criticism/self-esteem, assertiveness and communication, perfectionism, emotion regulation, life transitions, and experiences of grief and loss.

Elizabeth has a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental way of connecting to others. She deeply values building a trusting therapeutic relationship that nurtures openness, agency, collaboration and empathic dialogue.

Elizabeth strives to continuously enhance and strengthen the therapeutic relationship to promote a safe place in which to navigate life challenges or concerns with the aim of empowering you to reach your full potential.

In her work with diverse populations, Elizabeth is attentive to client social location and cultural elements that shape life experiences. She seeks to collaborate with you through a respectful and genuine curiosity to ensure she is capturing an understanding of how you have been influenced by relevant and specific factors, whether that relates to your background (e.g., family, cultural influences), life experiences, or unique perspective. Elizabeth works hard to ensure that treatment is connected to your needs, identifies your strengths, and helps to promote meaningful change.

Elizabeth received clinical training through her master of social work program at Western University. Her clinical rotations were completed at a hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Care, which included Adult Ambulatory Mental Health (i.e., outpatient treatment), the Transitional and Lifelong Care Program, and the Department of Supportive Care (i.e., hospice program). At St. Joseph’s Health Care she provided therapy for a range of anxiety presentations, depression, relationship concerns, stress, aging and end-of-life concerns, family of origin issues, and coping with various health conditions. Additionally, Elizabeth received three years of clinical supervision with a psychologist in which she trained in assessment and cognitive behaviour and emotion focused therapies. She has also participated in intensive EFT training workshops and has taken courses from the Beck Institute of Cognitive Behavior Therapy.

Elizabeth is a member of the Ontario Association for Social Workers and the Canadian Association of Social Workers.
