Dr. Jason Bloom

Dr. Jason Bloom, PhD, C.Psych. Psychologist

Dr. Jason Bloom is a registered clinical and school psychologist who works with children and adolescents. He has a wealth of experience working with families through his years of graduate training and employment. Dr. Bloom offers therapy for children and adolescents, as well as parent coaching. In addition, he provides comprehensive psychoeducational, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and psycho-diagnostic assessments for children and adolescents.

Dr. Bloom draws primarily from a cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) approach, and skillfully incorporates other therapeutic modalities, including: behaviour therapy, play therapy, exposure and response prevention, mindfulness-based therapy, and positive parenting practices (PPP). Dr. Bloom works to build a strong therapeutic relationship with all of his clients and understands the importance of a collaborative client-centered approach. He provides a warm, non-judgmental space and is able to adapt his approach to the unique concerns and identities of his clients. Dr. Bloom understands the value of empirical research, and his interventions are always considerate of evidence-based techniques.

Dr. Bloom has extensive experience providing treatment to children, adolescents and their families who need support with Depression, Anxiety, Obsessions and Compulsions, social skills, school stress/avoidance, emotion regulation, behaviour management, parenting challenges, and/or relationship difficulties. As an avid sports fan, Dr. Bloom has a special interest in the area of sports psychology. He has worked with high-performing high school athletes, and is interested in supporting young athletes in their mental health and performance.

Dr. Bloom offers sport and performance psychology services to children, youth, and adolescents who want to optimize their success in competitive settings. As an avid athlete and sports fan, Dr. Bloom understands the passion and pressure that comes along with sports, and the importance of having a strong mental game. He has experience providing sport psychology, individually and in group therapy, to young athletes who participated in high school athletics and the Pan-Am games, and who went on to participate in the OHL, Ontario University Athletics (OUA), and Division I NCAA programs in the USA. Dr. Bloom is knowledgeable and experienced in a diverse range of sports, including but not limited to: hockey, basketball, football, baseball, soccer, curling, golf, tennis, squash, volleyball, martial arts, and more.

Dr. Bloom utilizes evidenced-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness techniques, and visualization. His treatment plans include learning relaxation skills, challenging stressful thoughts, coping with pressures, identifying positive self-talk/mantras, improving self-confidence, creating helpful performance routines, and maintaining good self-care. Dr. Bloom is passionate about sport and performance psychology, and can help you reach your peak performance.

With respect to assessments, Dr. Bloom uses standardized assessment tools to write thorough and tailored reports with relevant recommendations that can be implemented both at home and at school. He provides comprehensive assessments for concerns including Learning Disabilities (LD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and giftedness. In addition, he also provides psycho-diagnostic assessments for children and adolescents with complex mental health (e.g., depression, anxiety) and learning needs.

Dr. Bloom completed his PhD at the University of Windsor (Child) Clinical Psychology program. His graduate research focused on fathers’ involvement with their children with ASD and the correlates of this for fathers’ mental health and wellbeing. Dr. Bloom has experience teaching at the University level.

Dr. Bloom has gained a wealth of clinical experience working at school boards, community mental health agencies, university clinics, and private practices. He completed his Residency at the Waterloo Region Psychology Consortium, where he received additional training in the school system (e.g., Section 23 classrooms) and complex mental health (e.g., youth criminal justice and CAS care). He has experience providing clinical supervision to junior graduate students in both therapy and assessment. Dr. Bloom currently works at the York Region District School Board (YRDSB), where he conducts assessments, provides individual and group therapy, and offers consultations to school staff and parents.

In his free time, Dr. Bloom loves playing sports, doing puzzles and board games, and reading. He also likes to watch movies and spend time with his family and friends. Jason is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and the Canadian Psychological Association.
