Dr. Maryam Gholamrezaei, PhD, C.Psych. Psychologist

Dr. Maryam Gholamrezaei holds a PhD. in Counselling Psychology from McGill University and is a registered clinical and counselling psychologist working with adults and couples. She has extensive training and experience in multiple therapeutic modalities, including Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic psychotherapy. In working with couples, her clinical approach draws on Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C) while integrating aspects of trauma-informed modalities.

Dr. Gholamrezaei provides assessment and treatment for individuals with a wide range of concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-criticism, perfectionism, shame, anger, relationship issues, emotion regulation, complex trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). With couples, she often addresses issues involving intimacy, infidelity, negative communication patterns, and unmet emotional needs within the relationship.

Dr. Gholamrezaei is an integrative and client-centered psychologist tailoring her approach in a way that best honors clients’ needs, values, and strengths. She strives to provide a safe, empathic, and attuned holding space in her sessions, and believes that a nonjudgmental, genuine, reliable, and compassionate therapeutic relationship is the foundation of psychotherapy. Dr. Gholamrezaei has a multicultural lens in therapy and also is interested in providing care to individuals of diverse backgrounds, including those identifying as LGBTQ as well as to refugee and immigrant populations.

Before joining Toronto Psychology Centre, Dr. Gholamrezaei’s experience has included working in a variety of settings, from hospital mental health outpatient to university counselling centres and private practice. During her postdoctoral supervised year, she worked with and learned from clients struggling with adverse impacts of subtle to devastating childhood trauma. She has also worked with adults and first responders whose lives have been affected by trauma and PTSD. Dr. Gholamrezaei’s clinical work with PTSD draws on different modalities, including Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She is also interested in integrating polyvagal theory in her understanding and treatment of PTSD.

Dr. Gholamrezaei completed her predoctoral internship at Brampton Civil Hospital (BCH). She was a part of the Adult Day Treatment Program (ADTP), which provided outpatient mental health services to individuals struggling with a wide range of psychological disorders, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and psychosis. At BCH, Dr. Gholamrezaei gained in-depth experience providing services such as individual psychotherapy, psychodiagnostic assessments, psychodynamic group therapy, as well as psychoeducational groups. Prior to her predoctoral internship, she provided treatment and assessment to university students at the Centre for Student Development at Ryerson University as well as at McGill Counselling Services.

Dr. Gholamrezaei offers services in both English and Farsi.

She is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA).
